Curiosity of the Day: Get Grounded

If you see this card, you’re very likely an empath or a highly sensitive person, and you need time alone to recharge your batteries and fill up your inner well.

When we’re not grounded, it’s all too easy to get swept up in other people’s energy, and mistake it for our own. This card serves as a reminder to not let our boundaries get blurred.

There’re two types of people in this world, the kind that draws energies from others, and those who draw their energies from within. Reflect on which one you are. I’m the later, obvi, that’s why I need some alone time everyday, to replenish.

We nourish our energetic roots through grounding, a practice which helps keeping us firmly in this life, in this present, and in this body.

The quickest and most common way to get grounded is to get in touch with the natural world. As demonstrated in the ancient Book of Change (易經, I-Ching), we’re intrinsically connected to Earth and her cycle of life, death, and rebirth. It’s in our nature, for we are a part of nature. Through earth we ground and protect ourselves energetically. Through earth we also form a foundation so we may find abundance.

Earthing is a fantastic way to get in touch with Mother Nature, you can walk bare-feet in the woods, or put your palms on a tree. If you can’t go into the nature, below are a few alternative options, to help you Get Grounded:

  • Meditate with a bloodstone. Hold the stone in your left hand as you go about your usual meditation session. If you’re left-handed, hold it in your right hand instead
  • Stomp your feet on the ground to shock yourself into coming back to the present moment, space, and/or back into your body
  • Practice the fourfold breathing method: inhale-hold-exhale-hold, each for 4 seconds, repeat a few times
  • Visualisation, imaging roots growing out of your feet down to the core of the earth, see white healing light moving up from the core of the earth, through the roots and your feet, feed your entire body
  • Drink tea. In Asia, especially in China and Japan, drinking tea is considered as a way to converse with nature through your soul. You don’t need to perform a whole tea ceremony, but please do take your time and really drink your tea: set intentions while you brew the tea, close your eyes as you take the first sips, and feel the warm grounding energy travels through your heart
