Curiosity of the Day: The Hermit (Rev.)

On the 20th, Jupiter will go into a four-months-long retrograde. We all know that Jupiter brings expansion, when it’s in retrograde, this “expansion” will be shifted within. During this time, the more expansive our inner realm is, the more freedom we will have in the outside world.

Now let’s take a look at what today’s Tarot has to say about the upcoming Jupiter retrograde.

The Hermit is governed by the element Earth and mostly represents the sign Virgo. Typically when The Hermit shows up reversed in a reading, it means we have been given wise counsel, however we are not heeding it for some reason. The current situation is affected or caused by failure to heed that wise counsel. The Hermit in reverse usually tells us that greater introspection and wisdom is needed. If we’re about to make a big decision, we are advised to seek out counsel or mentorship, rather than relying on our own judgement.

There is also another meaning to this card though. If you’re not in the aforementioned situations, then this card is asking you to bring your light out to the world, or it’s time to come out of your hiding place.

Although we’re not the products of our past but rather the sum of our future, we need to evaluate the sum of our experiences, and constantly reorganising our lives accordingly.

Every human being brings something original and novel into this world, this is represented by the embryo in the lantern on this card. The egg shaped jewels are also symbols of the growth of something new. Our light gets stronger as we resolve our own contradictions. If we don’t resume our responsibilities or choose to retreat into our comfort zone and incompetence, we will for sure fail to approach the magnificent power that’s inside.

If you’re waiting for a sign to finally face your issues and fears, this card is it. Go tackle the problems and solve them when it’s time, don’t hide in your own little bubble. Use your light to heal and sanctify the world around you.

In the contrary of what a hermit does, this card signals more commitment than rest, more effort than withdrawal. Accept responsibility, pay your dues morally and/or materially, increase your wealth, wellness and wellbeing, as well as that of your fellow friends, family and associates.
