Curiosity of the Day: High Priest

Some of us may interpret the High Priest (the Hierophant) as “orthodoxy”: conform to what’s the present norm and obtain the approval of those in power.

I think the High Priest represents our own personal essence or soul. It’s a card of mysteries. It gives us the task of translating the mystery of our lives and arranging the appropriate rites. It is our job to recognise the power within ourselves, and as the card shows, the key is right under our feet.

We translate the mysteries of our lives, not just for ourselves, but also to transmit the messages from near and far, to others, in this way, we can all stretch out beyond our boundaries and appreciate our unique existence.

The High Priest invites us to initiate mutual communication between different people, different races, different backgrounds and different personalities. Especially now in the midst of hatred, misconception and misjudgement, we need to be open to the needs of others, more than ever. Each person can be a spiritual teacher for every other person. “Sacredness” can manifest itself in our daily life and human interaction, what we do and say or don’t do and don’t say, affect a whole lot more people than just ourselves.

Never assume we know better than others and therefore try to protect or shield someone else from the knowledge or the truth. Don’t give in to the pressure or try to pressure others to conform. Let all the voices be heard.

Individuals should be free and safe to be their true selves. If one is not safe and free, we all are not truly safe or free.
