Curiosity of the Day: Year of the Ox

The celebration of a new lunar year has always been very special to me, and it’s not just because of my ancestors or heritages. It’s also about the very first new moon of a year, it contains really powerful energies, which makes it one of the best times to set new intentions and review the old.

First, let’s look at what 2021 entails based on the Chinese astrology. Then I will tell you what my Tarot card thinks about it 😉.

This lunar year belongs to the hardworking ox 🐂. 辛丑牛年 (Xin Chou Year of the Ox) is governed by the element of Metal (金: Jin) and Earth (土: Tu) , the elements we’re talking about here is 五行 (Wu Xing: 5 Chinese Elements, aka, the 5 Phases of the Chinese Philosophy).

辛 (Xin) is the Heavenly Stem (天干: Tian Gan), it’s governed by Metal (same as 2020), Yin (陰) energy. 丑 (Chou) is the second Earthly Branch (地支: Di Zhi), governed by Earth, also Yin (陰) energy. The interaction between Earth and Metal is to mutually generate energies. These energies are dominated by the Water (水: Shui) element.

Having an overflow of Water can bring turmoils, sufferings and pain, like it did in 2020, however, unlike 2020, the Water can be controlled and well-contained by our steadfast and diligent Ox.

This Watery Earth-Metal combination symbolizes a sturdy and pragmatic year. Although there will still be uncertainties around in 2021, we will be able to stay still and safely grounded, it will be a much better year than 2020.

If we meditate and focus on our development within, then all will be well.

The Tarot card I drew when I asked what 2021 holds for us, is the Page of Cups.

The Suit of Cups is ruled by the moon and governed by the element of Water. The element we’re talking about now, is the 5 elements of nature. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it happens to hold the same view as the Chinese astrology!

It is the suit of divinity, the Page symbolizes strong people skills, charisma, empathy, human connections and intuitions.

This card tells us to learn to playfully master our emotions, but to not play with our own or others’ emotions. There’s a lightness of the heart in this card, it wants us to keep our spirit carefree but at the same time, be tough and stand up for the things/values/people that are important to us.

In 2021, we need to pay attention to idealism. Make sure to have all our desires or fears clearly identified, and to act accordingly.

Furthermore, it’s a good year to settle our emotional and spiritual debts. If your own has already been settled, then you’ve been called to help those around you to settle theirs.

Happy Year of the Ox!

May health, abundance and joy be with you throughout the year 🧧💫🤘🏼.
