What Happens When You Meditate Daily for a Month?

I wasn’t what you would call a fan of meditation. I used to only meditate before a card reading or before I program/play with my crystals.

2020 has been a crazy year, on top of the pandemic, riots and uncertainty, my grandpa passed away in the summer and I couldn’t even travel back home and be with him during his last days. I was angry, upset and anxious, to the extent that I started to have insomnia for days at a time. That’s when I decided to give guided meditation a try. In October, I started to meditate for 10-15 minutes everyday, for a month.

Week 1: I had to literally put this on my agenda to make sure I get it done. It wasn’t that hard to concentrate following the guide, but I often found myself contemplating how to arrange the “space” I was creating in my mind. I also had to consciously correct my postures.

Week 2: I noticed I was more focused and disciplined after each session, even though the effect only lasted for a few hours, I was pretty happy with this result.

Week 3: I was able to fall asleep everyday again. I overthink A LOT when I can’t sleep: conversations from years ago would resurface, or I would play out in my head in great detail and multiple scenarios, something hasn’t even happened yet. Now these thoughts still come up, but I could just let them go like watching a hot-air ballon passing through the blue sky, without feeling the need to hold any thought or dig deeper.

Week 4: It’s crazy how content meditation made me feel, I’m also able to do longer sessions without many difficulties. Now I can selectively tune out most of the noises, nib negative thoughts in the bud and switch to a different mind-set rather easily.

After the first month, I changed my schedule to 3-4 times a week, or whenever I feel the need to. My goal is to be able to do unguided mediations by the end of April.

For the past year, I have been working through some personal struggles and the way I approach my life in general. Meditation is a really healthy and simple way for me to destress and declutter my mind. It’s amazing how much clarity you can bring in by just breathing with your eyes closed.

There are a lot of things we cannot control. We can hardly change other people, their perceptions and certain situations in life, what we can change is the way we react to things. I know it is not easy, but meditation has really aided me in this regard. I believe with practice, I will be able to choose my own thoughts freely. I will be able to stay still and centred no matter what’s happening out there. I will be able to send more good energies to those around me 🤗.

Within you, there is a stillness and sanctuary.
